DNA Archival Kits Added To Foundations MyID4Life Program

Richwoods, MO April 11, 2003 The Shawn Hornbeck Foundation this week expanded its popular MyID4Life Child ID program to include DNA Archival Kits. The MyID4Life DNA Archival Kit uses state-of-the-art technology to store DNA at room temperature.DNA is obtained by rubbing a swab on the inside of the mouth to collect cheek (buccal) cells. The swab is blotted on a special paper that is treated with chemicals to sterilize and stabilize the DNA.

The kits use the same products and procedures as used by Federal Law Enforcement agencies and the United States Military. The DNA sample is placed in a forensic quality foil-lined envelope for storage, and will last an average of 10 years. The DNA Archival Kits are available for an $8.00 donation, which is used to further expand the MyID4Life program.

The foundation will be offering free digital fingerprinting and photos for children aged 17 and under in two locations on Saturday, April 12, 2003.The service will be available from 9:00am 1:00pm at Saturn of St. Charles County, 4440 N. Service Rd. in St. Peters, in conjunction with the car seat safety check service sponsored by Safe Kids St. Louis. The service can also be obtained from 10:00am 5:00pm at the Spring for CASA Fair being held at Whole Foods Market, 1601 South Brentwood Blvd, just south of the Galleria. This event is sponsored by the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of St. Louis County, Inc., which has been serving abused and neglected children through trained community volunteers since 1980, and is a United Way Agency.

The MyID4Life DNA Archival Kits will be available at both events, and will soon be available online at www.shawnhornbeckfoundation.com.
