Security Concerns

Dear KTIS Member,
Google has implemented a new feature whereby you can type someone's
telephone number into the search bar, then hit enter and you will be
given
their name, city of residence, links to places on the Internet where
their
phone number is listed and, if you click on the Yahoo!Map or MapQuest
links
next to their name, you can get a map to the location of that phone
number.
The safety issues are obvious and alarming. Any stranger obtaining the
home
phone number of a child or elderly person can now use that phone number
to
find out where he or she lives.
This is not a hoax. To test it for yourself, go to
https://www.google.com/ ,
type your home phone number in the search box with dashes (i.e.
555-555-1212) and hit enter. If you are like most folks, your
information
will immediately be displayed for anyone who inquires. (Note: If your
home
phone number is not public, you should be fine.)
If you would like to block Google from divulging your private
information in
this manner, simply click on the telephone icon next to your phone
number.
You will be taken to an explanation of Google's "PhoneBook". Click on
the
link in the last sentence of the paragraph where it says... "To have
your
residential or business phone and address information removed from the
Google PhoneBook, click here."
We thought you might like to know...
